In this third episode I go over a few different ideas with examples on playing percussion (often referred to as auxiliary percussion) in a drum break. This is the second "improvised theme" part. This series is designed mainly to help beginners and intermediate however I believe there are plenty of ideas and nuggets for those who are more advanced. The genre context is a rock/pop situation.
The main thing to remember is it all about context; i.e. what instruments you have available, creativity, confidence, boldness, playing to the room/acoustics, song selection, genre, music director direction, etc.
Everything was composed in the moment and completely improvised with one take. I kept my playing as is with no editing (beside the obvious scene splits) to keep consistent with a live atmosphere/environment.
