
The people of the Democratic Republic of Congo are angry. And, when the people are angry, it's chaos and destruction. This is exactly what is happening in the DRC currently. In the last 24 hours, protesters in the DRC have attacked several foreign embassies in the country. This includes the US, France, Kenya, and Rwanda embassies. As they attacked, setting the embassies on fire, they could be heard chanting “Death to imperialists”. The governments of the embassies that were attacked have condemned the attacks. But the question they should be asking is “Why did the people of the DRC do that? Let's find out.
On Monday, January 27th, 2025, the most dangerous armed rebel group, M23, launched an attack at the Goma airport. Already, the group had announced that it had taken over Goma, the largest city in North Kivu province in eastern DRC. The attack on the airport was an attempt to take over the airport and if successful would result in the complete control of the city. However, the DRC Army resisted resulting in a severe clash between the two parties. Intense gunfire and explosions could be heard in the city. The clashes between the rebels and the DRC Army have led to the death of at least 17 United Nations peacekeepers and over 300 wounded.
