I'm twenty-six, working at GameStop, saving up for my DREAM PlayStation 5. Finally got enough money... walked into the store on release day, and there's this entitled mom with her maybe eight-year-old kid. I grab the LAST PS5 off the shelf, and this woman loses her MIND!
"Excuse me! You're too old to be playing video games!" I'm like... what?! "My son NEEDS that more than you do. Be an adult and give it to him!" Lady, I've been saving for MONTHS! "Well, he's just a child, and you're... how old are you? Thirty?"
THIRTY?! I'm twenty-six! But that's not even the point! This kid is standing there looking embarrassed while his mom is having a full MELTDOWN in the middle of GameStop! "Children should get priority over adults who refuse to grow up!"
I'm trying to stay calm. "Ma'am, I got here first, I'm buying this fair and square." But she's NOT having it! She starts following me to the register! "This is ridiculous! What kind of man your age plays children's games?!"
The cashier is trying not to laugh. I pay for my PS5, and this woman is STILL going! "I'm calling corporate! This is age discrimination!" Age discrimination?! Because I bought a gaming console?!
But HERE'S where it gets CRAZY... I get home, set up my PS5, and guess what game I'm playing? Spider-Man! Having the time of my life, right? Two hours later, my doorbell rings. It's a COP!
"Sir, we got a complaint about stolen property." STOLEN PROPERTY?! This lady called the POLICE on me! I show the officer my receipt, explain the whole situation. He's shaking his head. "Ma'am, purchasing a gaming console isn't theft."
The mom is standing behind him going, "But officer, he's clearly too old! There should be age limits!" The cop looks at her like she's INSANE! "Ma'am, that's not how retail works."
Best part? The officer asks ME, "What game you playing?" "Spider-Man!" "Oh man, that's awesome! I've been trying to get a PS5 for months!" We're talking about games while this lady is having a BREAKDOWN!
She storms off screaming, "This generation has NO respect!" The cop goes, "Enjoy your console, sir. And maybe keep your curtains closed... just in case."
I'm STILL playing that PS5 three years later! Sometimes entitled parents think age gives them special shopping privileges. NEWS FLASH... it doesn't!
