Consider how dangerous the woods are for children in real life, and the low odds of a child surviving out there, and then factor in the animal wildlife in the Pokémon universe largely outsizes the average human and just about all of them have superpowers.For most trainers this isn't a problem so long as they're equipped with Pokeballs that can mind control these things, but wild-children such as Koko, Tomo, or in this case Sapphire, have a much harder time.
A much more horrible fate if they slip up even for a second.
