The Devil's Kitchen is a unique and stunning volcanic oddity in Victoria, Australia. Located near the once-thriving town of Piggoreet. In the present day, little physical remains exist to tell of the area's vibrant history. In the past 7 million years, the ancient land was smothered by volcanic lava flows, burying the ground in up to 50 meters, or 164 feet of lava.

The spectacular columnar basalt here makes the Devil's Kitchen unique. They were exposed when the present-day Woady Yaloak River cut its way through the many layers of freshly extruded basaltic rock. Which are the solidified remains of the recently extruded lava flows.

The former township is no longer recognizable. Only a few scattered ruins speak of the days when homes and streets got constructed in a recognizable grid-like manner and churches, a police station, and other businesses existed alongside many thriving mining enterprises.
