We spent a total of 3 nights based in the town of Schönau am Königssee and we made the most of our time here with plenty of hikes around Berchtesgaden National Park, a boat tour on the emerald waters of Königssee, a cable car ride up Jenner Mountain, plus we just had fun befriending the local farm animals and enjoying rainy picnics with mountain views from our balcony.
So as always, we invite you to join us on this nature escape to the German Alps. Hit that subscribe button and let’s jump into this video!

GERMAN ALPS TRAVEL GUIDE ⛰️ | Visiting the Most BEAUTIFUL Place in GERMANY! (Berchtesgaden)😍
🇩🇪 Nature Escape to Berchtesgaden National Park | German Alps Adventure
Join us for a three-night getaway in Germany’s only Alpine national park. From emerald lakes to misty mountain hikes, farm animals to rainy-day picnics—here’s everything we did (and said) on our peaceful Bavarian retreat!
Greetings from the German Alps
“Hello and greetings from Berchtesgaden National Park, Germany’s only Alpine national park!”
Thrilled to escape into mountains, forests and lakes for a quiet nature break.
Home Base: Alpenpension Bergidyll
Charming guesthouse 20 minutes’ walk from town, nestled among farms and flower-boxed wooden chalets.
First Hike: Malerwinkl Loop
Trailhead just north of König ssee (King’s Lake).
Easy 10-minute climb to an official lookout, then misty lakeside benches.
Ethereal fog adding “moodiness” to shimmering turquoise water.
Lakeside Beer Garden Dinner
Post-hike feast: Käsespätzle (cheese noodles with crispy onions) and hearty mushroom-cream pasta.
“Not the hardest hike, but we’ll always say yes to cheese noodles!”
Cable Car to Jenner
Round-trip €24 pp to “Mittenstation” mid-mountain.
Weather too foggy for summit view, but half-way elevation still spectacular.
Alpine Hut Hopes Dashed
One-hour rainy hike up with umbrellas… only to find the mountain café closed.
Rewarded ourselves with gröstl (potato-bacon fry-up + egg) and cheese-stuffed schnitzel back in town.
Farm Animals & Village Walk
Afternoon stroll through farmland outskirts—met the friendliest dog ever (Cleo!) and curious goats.
Rainy-Day Balcony Picnic
Primitivo wine, paprika chips, sweet chili peas & scenic mountain views from our pension balcony.
Snow-Capped Morning Reveal
Woke up to clear skies: first glimpse of the Alps’ snowy peaks above the clouds.
Königssee Boat Tour
Timed departure post-lunch to dodge heavier rain.
Electric boat glided slowly past autumn-tinted pines.
Echo Wall demo with flugelhorn—notes bouncing back in majestic echo.
St. Bartholomä Stop
Red-domed Baroque pilgrimage church (closed to visitors in COVID times).
Quiet lakeside trail for further exploration.
Souvenir Penny Press
Minted our own elongated souvenir penny (€0.05) in the tiny chapel kiosk.
Obersee Hike: Secret Fjord Vibes
Final leg beyond Salet to Obersee’s emerald waters framed by rock walls & cascading waterfalls.
Farewell Morning Stroll
Last hours spent wandering to a neighbouring village, soaking in misty valley views—no rain in sight!
