Samarkand is included in the list of UNESCO's World Heritage, and it has been named "The beauty of the world" in history. Founded in the 7th century BC as ancient Afrosiab, Samarkand had its most significant development during the Timurids period from the 14th to the 15th century. The main monuments include the Registan Mosque and Madrasas, the Bibikhanim Mosque, the Shakhi-Zinda Complex and the Gor Amir Ensemble, and the Ulugbeks Observatory.
