This, is the strangest island in Europe. Located in the Baltic Sea, The Märket
Island is a rocky uninhabited island divided evenly by Sweeden and Finland with this weird border. You see, the border between Sweden and Finland was always pretty much normal and in 1809, Sweden and Russian controlled Finland agreed also on splitting this island in half. But 80 years later, Finland decided to build a lighthouse on the tallest part of the island, which, coincidentally, was on the Swedish side of the island.
The Swedes were very angry with this flagrant violation of their border and started protesting. This complex territorial dispute didn’t got solved for 100 years, when the two countries agreed on adjusting the map to put the lighthouse on the Finnish side and give Sweden equal compensation resulting in this zig-zag border on this useless island.
