Carl Porcaro (Breakdown, Raw Deal, Killing Time) is a hardcore lifer.
In this “Lifers” video, powered by Dunable and produced by Revolver with our partners at The Music Zoo, Porcaro looks back on New York hardcore's gritty history, his diverse guitar influences and more.
The video also serves to tell a tale (if you know, you know) about Carl Porcaro's 1980s 48 Street Custom guitar which he used to record tracks on the genre-defining ‘Raw Deal’ demo tape in 1988 and Killing Time's 'Brightside' record in 1989. The guitar had long been lost to time, and working with Sacha Dunable and his USA Custom Shop in Los Angeles, the Brightside Burst Gnarwhal is deceptively simple yet incredibly powerful — just like New York hardcore itself.
The Dunable USA Custom Shop “Killing Time” Gnarwhal is an extremely limited-edition guitar that serves as an ode to an all-time great NYHC band. The guitar is available for sale at The Music Zoo.
