DARK FOLK / POP Adna’s music has had more than 50 million streams on the large DSPs, and has had her melancholic, lo-fi work compared to the likes of Bon Iver and Daughter. Following on from the release of her stunning 2017 full-length ‘Closure’, an album which was lauded across numerous outlets including Stereogum, CLASH, The Line Of Best Fit, DIY and many more, Swedish-born but Berlin-based singer songwriter Adna returned to unveil her eagerly-awaited new studio collection ‘Black Water’, released on Despotz Records in the end of 2021.
Growing up on a small island in the archipelago, Gryr states that the music he now makes is a journey back to those roots. He remembers walking around the cliffs near the ocean while listening, watching and enjoying the sometimes dark and powerful force of Mother Nature.
Gryr sure is no newcomer when it comes to making or playing music. As a member in several bands, like DNKL and Immanu El, covered in The Guardian, Highsnobiety, The Fader, etc, he played stages like Boiler Room, Roskilde, SXSW and Way Out West as well as being support act for Com Truise and Tycho.
Adna speaking about the Black Water (album), she said, “I’ve always found comfort in writing these dark and dramatic songs, but at some point it started having the opposite effect on me and I wanted to explore the light as well, or at least, instead of expressing myself through obvious sorrow, try to turn it into something playful instead. Black Water is about this process, and I think of the album as an introverted album about sensitivity and origin and the process of accepting love. And I’m very much looking forward to bringing these songs on tour in 2022 together with three girls I’m lucky enough to call my band members.”
