DPG Advisory Solutions founder David Gazard believes most people would be “very careful” about switching their votes at the next election.

Labor’s primary vote has slumped to its lowest level since the 2022 election, according to the latest Newspoll.

Support for Labor has fallen by one per cent to 31 per cent, while the Coalition’s primary vote remains steady at 38 per cent.

“There’s only been one one-term government in Australia’s history since Federation – the ’31 Scullin government – so just on sheer history alone you have to say most people would be very careful about switching their vote this time around,” Mr Gazard told Sky News host Sharri Markson.

“That said you’ve seen a compression of voting habits at state elections – bigger swings, shorter duration of government, so this landscape has changed a lot since the Scullin government.”
