For over a century, roller coasters and other amusement park rides have always been the way to go if we want to walk the line between scary and fun. They give you thrills that make your heartbeat double at every vertical drop. As fun as these rides are, they are scarily dangerous and may cause inevitable accidents once in a while. Though it may be once or twice a year, roller coaster accidents can be very fatal. Today, we've combined for you a list of some of the disasters that have happened on rollercoasters. Buckle your seatbelt and let's take an awe-inspiring ride. Here are 10 Deadly roller coaster disasters.

10. Wildcat, Bell's amusement park

This roller coaster picked the wrong day to fail. It was April 20, 1997, and The Bell's amusement Park was full because of a one-time 25-cent-per-ride promotion. Who would have missed that? The ride everyone has been waiting for was the Wildcat roller coaster, a roller coaster that had been testing Tulsans' nerves since it was opened in 1974. Everyone was standing in line waiting for their turn to reach. Unfortunately, not all experienced the thrill. During a ride, one of the ride's cars reached the top of the highest hill and stalled out. The safety device that was meant to keep it from sliding backward broke and the car slipped 45 feet back down the track hitting another car. One boy lost his life while six other people were injured.

9. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

In 1979, Disneyland made all children and young adults happy when they built a runaway-mine-train theme ride complete with caves, mineshafts, and a desert landscape. The train consisted of a small locomotive and five cars that carried 32 people. The ride was everyone's favorite until 2003 when a fatal accident happened. The train had just shot up a hill and into a tunnel-like always but during the ride, the wheel assembly fell off the locomotive, jammed one of the axles, and caused the back end of the locomotive to kick up and crash into the ceiling of the tunnel. The derailed part of the train was the front car which had a rider who got crushed in the process. He was found lifeless by the emergency workers while 10 other riders were injured. The accident was blamed on poor maintenance practices.

8. Willard's Whizzer, Marriott's Great America Amusement Park

Who said a rollercoaster has to be on its extreme speed to cause an accident? This rollercoaster peaked at 70 feet and clocked in at a paltry 42 miles per hour. But this has nothing to do with the accident since the ride hadn't even started. The boy was just stepping onto the ride when a second train suddenly came up behind the one he was boarding and smashed it. The impact was so hard that it knocked the boy onto the tracks where the runaway train passed and crushed his chest and abdomen. Eight other riders were injured in the collision. Luckily no one passed. The accident was said to be caused by malfunctioning of the safety mechanism and electric signal that disrupted the roller coaster's computer causing the train to strike another one in the loading area.

7. Fujin Raijin II, Expoland

Leave alone the Wildcat roller coaster, this roller coaster here takes the crown in picking the wrong day to fail. May 5, 2007, was Japan's Children's Day. It was supposed to be a fun day with the children, but fate seems to have had another idea, which wasn't a good one. A roller coaster accident left one person lifeless and 19 injured. It had started as a normal day at the amusement park. In the early afternoon, 20 passengers got on the Fujin Raijin roller coaster to have the best time of their life. It was halfway over when the second car derailed and tilted dramatically to the left toward the handrail. Unfortunately, a woman struck her head on the railing as the coaster roared down the tracks. The accident was said to have been caused by a broken wheel axle which the park maintenance people hadn't inspected.
6. Derby Racer, Revere Beach

Never had a friendly match turned into tragedy as this did. A day at the Revere Beach was always fun and the Derby Racer made it even more fun. Two trains racing down parallel tracks to a finish line at the bottom of the ride is exciting moment teenagers look forward to. But one day, things didn't turn out as expected. In 1911, a treasure of the roller coaster ironically got injured as he was standing to lecture other passengers about safety. But that's just another small accident. What got people to stop going to the beach was the fatal incident that happened in 1917.
