The sky doesn't look purple, even though violet light has the shortest wavelength and is scattered the most by the atmosphere, because of how our eyes and the Sun work. Human eyes are much more sensitive to blue light than to violet, and the Sun emits less violet light in the first place. On top of that, the upper atmosphere, especially the ozone layer, absorbs a lot of violet and ultraviolet light before it reaches us. The scattered light we do see is a mix of colors, mostly blue, and our brains interpret that mix as sky blue rather than violet or purple.
