One of Tony Levin's most memorable bass creations is the multi-part line on Peter Gabriel's Don't Give Up, a haunting duet with singer Kate Bush from Gabriel's 1986 So. Levin played the song fingerstyle on a Music Man StingRay 4-string, with his E string tuned down to Eb to accommodate the final section's low Eb's.
Thanks to Tony’s infant daughter - who he brought to the session - the muted bass sound was achieved by stuffing part of a diaper under the bridge of his bass! They called it the “Super Wonder Nappy Bass Sound” 👶🏻🤘🏻
