Have you noticed how Sonic's speed randomly drops in key movie moments? Normally he's so fast, the world practically freezes, yet sometimes he’s bafflingly slow. Take the infamous tranquilizer dart scene. Sonic, who can outrun explosions, somehow can't dodge a dart? And remember the bar in Sonic 2? Instead of effortlessly grabbing the map or escaping with Tails, he conveniently forgets he's literally the fastest thing alive. This issue even spreads to Shadow in the third movie. Shadow, supposedly Sonic’s equal, could've easily saved Maria or evaded capture. Yet the plot conveniently robs him of speed precisely when drama is needed. The movies clearly dial their speed up or down depending on the emotional stakes. While dramatic, it creates frustrating inconsistencies for fans.
