Arduino Sketch:
In this video I do some listening to stations on shortwave band by using homemade ferrite antennas made with a rod 20cm long and 1.2cm in diameter and also some other ferrite rod variations. The coil was made with 11 turns of 0.8mm copper wire (approximately 20uH).
The stations and location are described in the video.
The idea here was not comparing receivers. Nor to say that my prototype performs better than the commercial XHDATA receiver. That is not true.
In this video, I try to take advantage of the characteristics of a ferrite rod antenna due to the noise conditions of my location on HF band.
I was receiving the radio "Club do Pará" in Fortaleza/CE (5KW, about 1,3 km far from me) at a time when the propagation was very bad and the noise level was very high. I tried to receive the station on an XHDATA using its telescopic antenna and compared its reception with the my homebrew receiver using a ferrite antenna.
The ferrite antenna was directed to the position where I got a good signal level from the station while it was possible to mitigate the noise level existing in my location.
