Here’s a song I wrote and sang in Old Norse, played on my lyre. It’s called Várkváma, literally “The Coming of Spring”, and deals with the harsh winters of the north giving way to the milder months.

I use a number of kennings in the song, namely:
Megin fjalla (the strength of the mountains) = the cold
Skjǫldr himna (the shield of the heavens) = the sun
Eldr hlýrnis (the fire of the sky) = the sun
Stjóri markar (the guardian of the forest) = tree(s)
Sveiti foldar (the blood of the Earth) = lakes
Gandr storðar (the wolf of the Earth) = the wind

The video clips are from Pexels.

I hope you enjoy the song. Please consider subscribing if you’d like to see more.

You can find me on Spotify under The Skaldic Bard. More to come there at a later date!

If you'd like to support my work, you can do so here: (but really, no pressure!). Thank you for your kindness.
