I recently met a follower who insisted I come to her house for lunch, and I’m so glad I did! She prepared a traditional Rajasthani meal called Dal Baati Churma. Let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious! But what truly touched me was the hospitality. She didn’t just serve me the meal; she also took the time to teach me how it’s traditionally eaten. That warmth and care felt so special.

Only in India do people express their love by insisting you join them for an impromptu, last-minute meal. I mean, I’d never say no to a homemade meal, but it’s incredible how much heart people pour into these moments here. India is such a vast and diverse country—every state, every region has its own unique culture, food, dances, language, and ways of showing love.

It’s funny that after living in India for many years before moving to the US, I never experienced Dal Baati Churma the right way until now. This experience has opened my eyes to just how rich and beautiful our traditions are. Honestly, after this, how could I ever say no to such an invitation again?
