June 2022 presentation on Applying Zero Trust principles to Industrial Control Systems. In many cases, zero trust can move effectively into operational technology, but there are limits. Level 0/1 devices generally now, lacking any government regulations, lack the processing capability to perform basic security functions. And sensors, in particular, are shipped with a built-in back door: they have to be calibrated in the field, so they have a port allowing the engineer to adjust the sensor's output. These devices don't event have primitive user authentication. Even "USERID: Admin PASSWORD: Admin" is not available.
