Printing an old electrotype of the U.S. flag for the lead up to Independence Day

Independence Day is around the corner and we are going to start highlighting some of our patriotic materials in the print shop at the Sacramento History Museum.

In this video, Jared letterpress printed an image from an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) that he recently acquired from an antique store in Sutter Creek, California. This small cut depicts the U.S. flag and was made long ago as the are not 50 stars on it. How many stars do you see? This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852.

The Sacramento History Museum will be closed July 4th for the holiday.
