Under her watch, Sunny and Gizmo were awake and busy with some special treasure they found in the nest bowl—maybe a fish tail? Whatever it was had them both fascinated and tugging back and forth on it…enough to get mom’s full attention. Their engaged curiosity had Jackie stretching to look over the top of them with what seemed like squinted eyebrows and questions about what those kids had gotten into this time. She soon went out to the front porch with what surely looked like a mom kind of eye roll…and Sunny and Gizmo happily returned to their game.
When Papa Shadow returned, Sunny had a few admiring looks up at dad, as little Gizmo focused on watching big Sunny. But Jackie was intently on duty and quickly flew off the front balcony after some daring ravens. As she chased them, she even pulled a full talons-up fighting maneuver (10:58:50—between the right side y-limbs). Go Mama Jackie!
In the afternoon, Sunny helped Shadow keep an eye on those ‘raveny’ neighbors flying around. And Shadow huddled in closer to both chicks to keep them protected.
Then it was baby stick time! Both Sunny and Gizmo showed off their stick arranging for Shadow, and Sunny even quite purposely stood on the stick with both feet.
By evening, best pals Sunny and Gizmo were ready for a little down time. First came a good face-to-face friendly investigation of each other. Then some quiet cooperative stick play seemed like a good restful task, with each working to improve their stick maneuverability skills.
Sunny and Gizmo are both growing fast, expanding their curiosity and gaining new skills each and every day. We will keep an eye on what they can teach us about growing up, friendly relationships and treasuring their dedicated mom and dad.
