The Key of Solomon the King, or Clavicula Salomonis, is one of the most famous and influential grimoires (or better yet, 'grimoire traditions') in the Western occult world. Translated and edited in 1888 by S. Liddell MacGregor Mathers, co-founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, this treatise purports to preserve the magical instructions of King Solomon himself.
Drawn from small handful of medieval manuscripts housed in the British Museum, the Clavicula contains a system of planetary magic, elaborate ritual procedures, consecrations, pentacles, and invocations for summoning and commanding spirits. It blends Jewish and Christian systems, particularly the Cabala of divine names, revealing a rich syncretic current in medieval, early modern, and modern magic.
