Guy Henry (Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars Rogue One, Pius Thicknesse in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Henrik Hanssen in Holby City) talks to me about what it's like to be a film actor working on a wide range of projects. Originally having trained as a stage actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) Guy is enjoying an amazing career and has balanced appearances in huge Hollywood projects like Star Wars and Harry Potter with popular TV roles such as Holby City (Hanssen), HBO's Rome (Cassius), John Adams (the Attorney General) and Extras with Ricky Gervais (Iain Morris), Lost In Austen (Mr Collins) and small indie films, including one of mine.
Filmmakers, you're in for a treat this week! The interview also covers interesting topics such as film acting techniques, behind the scenes stories form some big films, stage acting vs screen acting, directing actors, actor rehearsals, what it's like 'looping' lines when doing ADR (additional dialogue replacement) acting techniques, and theatre including Shakespeare and Twelfth Night. There is also a fun description of how Guy tried to emulate Peter Cushing for his Rogue One motion capture performance, and the VFX by Industrial Light and Magic to bring Tarkin back to life with a CGI face / digital human.
