On 31 July 1991, legendary musician, composer, and record producer Quincy Jones spoke to ITN's Fiona Murch about the upcoming release of Ellen Weissbrod's documentary about his life, Listen Up: The Lives of Quincy Jones. In the course of the interview, Jones revealed who had been his greatest influences as a young musician; how he became interested in composing; his approach to music production and collaborating with artists; why he could never work with an artist he didn't like; the power of music as a form of political expression; and the role of artistic communication in shaping world events, from the end of the Cold War and the collapse of Communism to the release of Nelson Mandela.
