Here’s another rhythmic glitch effect patch for the Empress ZOIA. Although called Ambient Glitch 2, this isn’t a replacement/rebuild of my previous Ambient Glitch patch, just a new exploration of the random glitching concept.
It certainly isnt limited to ambient music of course, it sounds great on drums too!
Ive included a full set of controls on the first page to customise the sound, see video to see a full rundown of their functions.
You also don’t need a MIDI clock this time, the clock BPM control is the yellow buttons in the centre column.
The effect is Stereo and incorporates random panning. To run it in mono i’d recommend adjusting the controls to make the glitches more frequent, as you’ll be missing the glitches that are panned to the other side.
How it works:
Basically, the incoming audio is duplicated into buffers and randomly switched between parallel fx lines featuring a pitch shifter and a Alias module. From the fx modules, the audio is routed through bandpass filters then through a randomly opening/closing VCA. There is also a delay circuit to add further sound sculpting potential, such as Karplus Strong sounds.
