Floodwaters in southwest Detroit turned to a thick layer of ice due to extreme temperatures of -4°F. Roads and vehicles were trapped in ice after a 54-inch diameter main broke.

Approximately 400 properties were affected and more than 300 residents were displaced. "The water came in quickly and then froze within hours," said one resident. Crews are working hard to clear the area and repair the leaking pipe system.

Local authorities urged residents to be aware of slippery roads and to stay safe during the recovery process.
