2022 was a bad year to be a billionaire with the 500 richest people in the world losing a combined 1.4 trillion dollars but there were some winners who added to their wealth despite falling markets. The biggest winner of all was Gautam Adani the founder of the Adani group which is a conglomerate based in India that operates shipping ports and fossil fuel mines. Adani added a staggering 80 billion dollars to his fortune.
Adani is now worth 120 billion dollars and is the third richest man in the world behind only Elon Musk and the second man on this list Bernard Arnault.
Arnault is the chairman of the LVMH group and only increased his net worth by a miniscule 13.3 billion dollars last year, but unlike the other centa-billionaires his net worth didn’t decline which was an impressive achievement.
2022 was a good year for old fashioned companies the Kochs industrial companies and the mars family confectionary empire allowed them both to add more than 20 billion dollars to their family fortunes.
