I combined optics and electronics to detect small changes in atmospheric pressure. Here’s how it works:
A laser diode is mounted on the balloon diaphragm. As air pressure changes, the diaphragm moves, causing the laser beam to shift.
The beam is directed toward an LDR-based sensor circuit (using a BC547 transistor, 1k resistor, buzzer, and LED). If the laser moves off the LDR due to pressure change, the LED and buzzer turn on!
A 30 cm scale is used to visually observe tiny laser movements from a distance of 40 cm — allowing you to track even minute pressure fluctuations.
This setup mimics how a real aneroid barometer works, but adds a modern twist with laser detection and audio-visual alerts.

2L Glass Jar
Balloon
Laser Diode Module (3.7V)
LDR (Light Dependent Resistor)
BC547 Transistor
