According to a Los Angeles Times report, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass was at an embassy cocktail party in Ghana when the Palisades Fire first broke out last Tuesday. Bass had left LA days beforehand. She and Governor Gavin Newsom have been under heavy scrutiny for their handling of the deadly wildfires in California. One week later, the Palisades Fire is still burning, along with the Eaton Fire. At least 24 people have died as a result of the blazes. Southern California remains under a red flag warning as heavy winds are expected to move through the area into Wednesday, elevating fire risks.
