July 5th is National Workaholics Day! This day reminds us to try and balance our work and home life. While it might seem like Howard and Jared are always at work in our print shop exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum, did you know they only work together two days a week?

For today, Howard letterpress printed a group of blacksmiths, a profession that would historically work sun up til sun down 6-7 days a week. This image was printed from an electrotype (copy of a woodcut), made roughly 130 years ago, from the Lewis Winter Collection. Winter even made sure his name was included in the print! This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852.
