While the planning and engineering work continues for the General Obligation Bond project to raise and build public sea walls, the City Department of Public Works is undertaking an interim project to provide tidal flooding mitigation in shoreline areas, primarily around North and South Lakes in east Hollywood. The City has identified the shoreline areas with no protection that are particularly low and susceptible to flooding during King Tides and higher than normal high tides. Here are some photos of the work that began this past weekend. Public Works crews are raising the shoreline with fill and using filter cloth to prevent erosion of these new materials, then stabilizing it with a layer of rip rap. Crews will be working overtime over the next several weeks to address as many areas as possible.
