Released in 1970, this is a masterpiece of salsa music. It crystalizes the Willie Colón/Héctor Lavoe aesthetic that the duo developed on previous albums. The songs reflect the duo’s views on life’s reckless joys and profound tragedies, like the nostalgic remembrance of Lavoe’s grandmother’s hilarious sayings on “Abuelita” and the swinging “Barrunto” which describes the sadness of heartbreak. Featuring (AAA) lacquers cut from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, this reissue is pressed on 180-gram vinyl. Completing the package is a classic-style tip-on jacket, replicating the album’s iconic original artwork. In stores on April 12, La Gran Fuga also debuts on 192/24 hi-res digital audio on the same date. In addition, a Salt ‘n’ Peppa deluxe color vinyl exclusive with an exciting bundle option that includes a limited-edition La Gran Fuga T-shirt featuring the iconic album cover art is available for pre-order at Fania.com.
