Rhythm play along Level 2 to secure understanding of rhythm in music.
Crotchet, crotchet rest, quavers, minim, whole note and semiquavers

Crotchet = 1 beat
Crotchet rest = 1 beat of silence
Pair of Quavers = 1/2 + 1/2
Minim = 2 beats long
Whole Note = 4 beats long
Semiquavers = 1/4+1/4+1/4+1/4

Method:
L1 Say - "Car" for crotchets, "shh" for rests and 'brum, brum' for quavers, "metropolis" for semiquavers, "li-ghts" for minim and count 4 beats for whole note.
L2 Say and Play (Clap or Tap or use instruments)
L3 Play (Clap or Tap or use instruments) Say rhythm using thinking voices if necessary.


Suitable for KS1 with support, KS2 and beyond to secure synchronicity to music with the beat of the track.

Extra Challenge: Ask the students to come up with their own sound words and actions for the symbols.
Go to playback speed and try at 0.5 or 1.25 for different tempo challenges.
