While the move to the cloud brings forth many challenges and changes to the field of digital forensics and incident response, it also presents responders with numerous benefits. Whether it's using functions-as-a-service for automation, deploying cloud-hosted lab environments, or benefiting from scalable resources, there are many ways in which we can leverage the cloud to improve our investigations. Join SANS FOR509 course instructors Terrence Williams and Megan Roddie as they present some of the new possibilities that exist for DFIR practitioners thanks to cloud technology.

About our speakers

Megan Roddie
Megan Roddie is currently working as a Senior Security Engineer at IBM. Along with her work at IBM, she works with the SANS Institute as a co-author of FOR509, presents regularly at security conferences, and serves as CFO of Mental Health Hackers. Megan has two Master's degrees, one in Digital Forensics and the other in Information Security Engineering, along with many industry certifications in a wide range of specialties. Her goal as a SANS author, especially as it relates to lab development, is to give students realistic, practical hands-on experiences that will allow them to more effectively approach real-life incidents. Megan not only fights cybercrime, but is also a highly active competitor in Muay Thai/Kickboxing.

Terrence Williams
Since 2011, Terrence Williams has embraced the United States Marine Corps saying, "Grow Where You Are Planted." As an active duty Marine, Terrence was placed into the cybersecurity world to satisfy "The needs of the Marine Corps." Turns out, being planted in the cybersecurity role is the best place for Terrence to grow his passion for Digital Forensics & Incident Response (DFIR). Currently Terrence Williams works in a Defensive Cyber Operations billet that requires him to conduct various duties in the DFIR realm. His young career has led him to operating on multiple enterprise networks supporting military operations that expand across the world.
