Bus, launch and truck owners and workers began their strike on Friday morning protesting against increasing fuel oil price and demanding bus fare hike or reducing the fuel prices.
Like elsewhere in the country, commuters had to suffer immensely in Dhaka as they did not get public buses to go to their destinations. Though a few BRTC buses run on city roads, they were too insufficient to meet the demand.
Thousands of people, especially the office goers, had to walk to go to their offices in the morning and return to their residences from offices in the afternoon.
People had to pay two to three times higher fare to go to their destinations by CNG-run three-wheelers, ride-sharing motorcycles and cars, pick-up vans and rickshaws.
On Sunday evening, bus and launch owners withdrew their countrywide strike after the authorities concerned had increased the fares of diesel-run buses by around 27 per cent and launches by around 39 per cent.
