STORYLINE:
Thousands of supporters of the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group gathered in a rally on Wednesday in front of Iranian embassy in Beirut to show their support for Iran.

The Iran-backed rally comes as the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran appeared to be holding on Wednesday.

Hezbollah is an ally of both Iran and the Palestinian militant Hamas group in Gaza.

The group's supporters at the rally waved Lebanese, Hezbollah and Iranian flags.

"We are one hand, and nothing can ever divide us no matter how hard they try," said Hezbollah supporter Amal Saadeh.

Israel launched a surprise barrage of attacks on sites in Iran on June 13, which Israeli officials said was necessary to head off what they claimed was an imminent threat that Iran would build nuclear bombs.

Iran has responded with a series of missile and drone strikes in Israel.

U.S. President Donald Trump helped negotiate the ceasefire between Israel and Iran that took hold Tuesday on the 12th day of the war.

Hezbollah, which launched its own strikes on Israel a day after Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack, has been hard-hit and suffered significant losses on the battlefield until a U.S.-brokered ceasefire last November ended the 14 months of fighting between Hezbollah and Israel.

The militant group, funded and armed by Iran, has long been considered Tehran’s most powerful ally in the region but its latest war with Israel also saw much of Hezbollah’s political and military leadership killed in Israeli airstrikes.
