Later, Red owned the Vee-Eight record label in Nashville, Mack Banks, Magnificient Seven, Mack Allen Smith and Larry Kirby recorded for the label.
Matthews and Bill Biggs owned the OJ record label in Memphis (artists included Wailin' Bill Dell, Charles Senns and Chester Guydon).
Matthews also wrote "White Silver Sands" which was a big hit and "I Got A Baby" for Gene Vincent.
In February 1958 Red Matthews produced Mickey Gilley's "Call Me Shorty"/"Come On Baby" Dot single and it was recorded on Sun.
