What is the strangest border in Europe? 🌏🇫🇷🇳🇱
Europe has some bizarre borders, from Italy's panhandle into Slovenia to the Gibraltar exclave. But the most unusual one? The border between the Netherlands and Belgium, specifically in the twin towns of Baarle-Nassau and Baarle-Hertog.
A land dispute dating back to the 12th century resulted in a chaotic patchwork of 22 Belgian enclaves inside the Netherlands and 8 Dutch enclaves in Belgium—7 of which are counter-enclaves! This tangled border remains today, though both countries are in the EU, making it practically invisible.
💡 Watch to uncover this mind-boggling geographic puzzle!

Did you ever wondered wat’s the strangest border in Europe?
Well, we have a lot of options, from the border between Italy and Slovenia with this 30 miles long panhandle to the one between Spain and United Kingdom represented by the Gibraltar exclave. But the strangest one has to be the border between The Netherlands and Belgium which at first glance seem to be pretty normal, but if we zoom in a little, we see these two towns here called Baarle-Nassau and Baarle Hertog. The twin cities are a unique geographical oddity that dates back to a land dispute from the 12th-century, resulting in a crazy patchwork of enclaves and exclaves between Belgium and the Netherlands that never got resolved.
In total, there are 22 Belgian enclaves in the Netherlands and 8 Dutch enclaves in Belgium. 7 of which are counter-enclaves.
As both of the countries are a part of the EU, the border is technically nonexistent.
