In the northeastern Romanian city of Suceava, especially around Broșteni, a major tragedy unfolded as the Bistrița and Neagra rivers reached historic levels. Hundreds of homes were submerged, cars were swept away, and many people climbed onto rooftops waiting to be rescued. Authorities confirmed that three people lost their lives, hundreds were evacuated, and red flood warnings remain in effect in the region. Rescue teams used SMURD helicopters to airlift stranded residents to safety.
