Alan Watts (January 6, 1915 – November 16, 1973) was a renowned British philosopher, writer, speaker, and popularizer of Eastern philosophy for Western audiences. Born in Chislehurst, England, Watts developed a deep interest in Eastern thought and spirituality at an early age. He moved to the United States in 1938, eventually becoming one of the most influential figures in the 1960s countercultural movement.

Watts authored over 25 books and delivered countless public lectures, famously introducing ideas from Zen Buddhism, Taoism, and Hinduism to a Western audience. Among his most notable works are "The Way of Zen," "The Wisdom of Insecurity," and "The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are."
