Ontario Premier Doug Ford has blasted United States President Donald Trump’s tariff threats to Canada

On March 4, tariffs were issued on Canada and Mexico, with the US president saying they were aimed at curbing the flow of illegal border crossings and drugs into America

Following this announcement, President Trump backtracked, announcing he will pause tariffs on Canadian goods for one month

Doug Ford, who had previously voiced his concerns regarding Trump’s tariffs, said the only thing certain about the next month is “uncertainty”

In retaliation, he said he will be moving ahead with his tariffs, charging 25 per cent more on electricity shipped to America

“I’m going to put a 25 per cent on electricity … until President Trump drops these tariffs, that’s the last thing I want to do.

“He has to understand that he can’t attack our country economically and expect us to roll over.

“He’s created an absolute mess and we need to clean it up and stop it immediately and move forward, shoulder to shoulder in crisis.”
