Joel Osteen is a false teacher because he promotes the prosperity gospel which teaches that God guarantees financial blessings and physical health for all believers, a doctrine that is contrary to Scripture’s teaching on suffering and spiritual refinement (2 Timothy 3:12). He also embraces the Word of Faith movement, which wrongly asserts that spoken words and “positive confessions” can manifest reality, rather than relying on God’s sovereign will. Furthermore, Osteen consistently fails to preach about sin and the necessity of repentance, a core message of the gospel (Luke 13:3). He also leans toward universalism, suggesting that all people will be saved regardless of faith in Christ, contradicting the clear biblical teaching that salvation is through Jesus alone (John 14:6).
