Retina sends signals to the brain via the optic nerve.
Diabetes Retinopathy occurs when diabetes damages tiny blood vessels on the Retina.
Blood vessels may weaken, swell and leak.
Types
Non-proliferative diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR):
Early stage, blood vessels begin to leak
Result in Accumulation of fluid in retina
Can lead to blurred vision
Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR):
Later stage, blood vessels close off and abnormal blood vessels grow in their place
Can lead to Vision loss, Retinal detachment, Glaucoma
