The beef between Canibus and Papoose - Hip-Hop Universe

The conflict started after Canibus joined the army in 2002. Canibus recorded dozens of verses before he took a break from Hip-Hop. He had a freestyle called "Say It Ain't So". Canibus gave it to "Drama King" Kay Slay to publish it. But Kay Slay remixed it to a collaboration. Papoose had the opportunity to be on the same freestyle as Canibus. But Canibus never agreed to this. Kay Slay mixed the freestyle record into a full song. It created the illusion of Papoose and Canibus battling each other or at least going head to head fairly. But this was not the case. Kay Slay chopped Canibus' verses into little pieces and added Papooses verses into the song. Papoose recorded much longer non-freestyle verses for this song. He had all the time in the world to write a verse that seemed more sophisticated than Canibus' verse. On collaborations Canibus is know to put his best into the song, but in a freestyle he is not going all out. Papoose used this opportunity to make it seem like he is the better rapper than Canibus. Canibus was in the army and couldn't respond. He couldn't even decline to release this collaboration. It seemed like a plot against him, a plot to discredit Canibus. Canibus at that time was seen as the greatest lyricist on the planet (and he still is). Outshining him on a track would be a career boost. The released song was renamed to "Back To Back/Back 2 Back". It sounded like Papoose was dissing him on the same song. Canibus already experienced a scenario where another rapper dissed him on the same track (LL Cool J in 4, 3, 2, 1). #hiphopuniverse #hiphopbeefanalysis
