The Philippines’ highest banknote, the 1000 peso bill, used to feature the portraits of World War II heroes Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos, Girl Scouts of the Philippines founder Josefa Llanes Escoda, and Armed Forces of the Philippines General Vicente Lim. However, this new 1000 peso bill features the majestic but critically endangered Philippine eagle. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas states the Philippine Eagle would symbolize "clear vision, freedom, and strength." And of course, replacing the martyred heroes with a bird caught quite the attention of the public, but let's remember that these three heroes and the Philippine eagle are equally important in their own way.
