Randy VanWarmer (1955–2004) was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born Randall VanWarmer in Indian Hills, Colorado, he moved to England with his mother three years after his father died in a car accident.
His biggest hit was "Just When I Needed You Most."
In 1985, he moved to Nashville with his wife Suzi, where he wrote songs for several famous country artists.
Randy was always fascinated by space and dreamed of becoming an astronaut. One of his album covers features a photo of him in an Apollo spacesuit, and he even wrote a song called "I'm Gonna Build Me a Rocket." Unfortunately, he suffered from leukemia for a year before passing away in Seattle at the age of 48 in 2004.
Some of his ashes were sent into space in 2007 and 2012, making him part of the first successful private space flight to the International Space Station.
