Imagine a paint that can erase the shape of an object simply by absorbing light? This is Vantablack, one of the blackest materials. It absorbs up to 99.96% of the light that hits it. Because of this, surfaces coated with Vantablack do not reflect any shape or contour, they just look like empty space. From the front, the coated object looks flat and dimensionless. Only when viewed from the side does its true shape become visible. That is the extreme effect of light being completely swallowed by its surface.
