The Beatles helped to make the Cavern Club in Liverpool one of the most famous venues in the world. The Cavern Club opened as jazz club on 16 January 1957.Ringo was there first with the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group, in July 1957. John and his group the Quarry Men made their debut on 7 August 1957. Owner Alan Sytner was not a fan of rock’n’roll and when they played a couple of Elvis songs he sent a note to John onstage to, “cut out the rock’n’roll”. Paul missed this gig because he was away at Boy Scout camp.
The first appearance as “The Beatles” was on 9 February 1961. This was also George’s debut at the club. Ringo joined and on 19 August 1962 Cavern-goers were treated to their first glimpse of the Fab Four.
Their last Cavern gig, after 292 appearances [according to the Cavern’s own website], was on 3 August 1963.
