Bobby Whitlock — singer, songwriter, keyboardist, and co-founder of Derek and the Dominos — has sadly passed away. In this tribute, I look back at his incredible career, from Stax Records to Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, his vital partnership with Eric Clapton, and his later solo work.
I also talk about the out-of-print Layla Sessions: 20th Anniversary Edition (1990) box set, why it’s such an essential document of this era, and why it’s time for it to be reissued — especially now, in honour of Bobby’s memory.
