World renowned conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner introduces Monteverdi's operatic swan-song that revels in the scandalous sexual innuendo and explicit corruption that goes on in the Roman court of Nero. This short film was captured during the Accademia Monteverdiana workshops in 2016 at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice. It gives an insight to the drama, intrigue and fascinating story contained within L'incoronazione di Poppea (The crowning of Poppea) which will be performed as part of the Monteverdi 450 series at Colston Hall and around the world in celebration of Monteverdi's 450th anniversary.
